I relaxed on and off since I was a teen, and I liked it. When my hair looked good, it looked really good. The pictures below were taken in 2002, after my hairdresser had done my touch up. That girl could style hair!
Blow drying helped my hair appear to have some volume, but blow drying is bad for hair if done consistently. I don't have thick hair. I have thin, fine hair, so it took it's toll on my hair. I didn't have any problem taking my sciccors and cutting my hair to a tiny fro to rid myself of the relaxer when it started breaking. It was the only way to stop the breakage, so I've had TWA's a lot, off and on over the past 30 years.
Then there were the braids. Oh, how I love braids!!!
Braids gave me great volume, which I really liked. They're sexy and versatile. But they can also cause damage if you're not careful.
A year ago I discovered lace wigs and tried it. I thought this was great, but this trend didn't last very long. I found that I couldn't wear it in the summer because I would have to keep reapplying the glue, and the jury is still out as to what the long term affects of the glue on skin will be, if any. And the wigs are really expensive and delicate. Nice though, for special occasions. Big hair is hot! LOL.
In the end, I've decided I don't want to do any of this anymore. I stopped relaxing 6 years ago, and my beloved braid was damaging my hair line and thinning my hair even more. And I don't want to wear other people's hair anymore either. LOL.
Locking my hair has done something for me. I'm embracing my natural hair once and for all. I love it! My locs are small, not as thick as I would like, and the slippage is driving me nuts. But believe me when I tell you, I'm having a love affair with my hair! I love my little sisterlocks!!
