After 44 years of doing everything possible to my hair, and nearly a year of researching locs, I finally locked my hair! My locs were born on November 22, 2010. I started with approximately 2-6 inches of natural hair. The process took 2 days to complete. The following pictures were taken on November 21, 2010, the morning of my appointment to start my locs.
Now, I'm a fine hair sister. I don't have the beautiful, thick, dense hair that most sisters have, and this was one of the main reasons it took me so long to finally commit to locking. I searched high and low for someone who had hair like mine, and I really didn't see any. I was worried about the possibility of excessive scalp exposure, but in the end, I opted to take the plunge, and I'm so glad I did! These next set of pictures were taken on the evening of November 22, 2010. My sisterlocs consultant was Martine Bernard, and she's really fabulous! She made the process very pleasant, and I had a lot of fun meeting some of her other clients and discussing locs and how liberating the experience is.
After 2 days and 20 hours, my micro-sisterlocks were born! I was tired, bleary-eyed, but oh, so happy! The pictures above are 3 months old, and my locks have gone through some changes. I have a lot of shrinkage. A LOT! I now have a teenie fro. LOL. The bottom pictures were taken last week.
